John Cartwright Appointed Catalans Dragons Head Coach for Remainder of Season

Former Hull FC head coach John Cartwright has been named the new head coach of Catalans Dragons, taking charge for the rest of the current Super League season.

Cartwright stepped down from his role at Hull FC last month, paving the way for Steve McNamara to take over in 2027, with Andy Last serving as interim head coach for the remainder of this year. The Australian was still under contract at the MKM Stadium, but has now been released to move to France.

The Dragons were left without a head coach after Joel Tomkins departed to take up a role in rugby union with Gloucester.

"This came totally out of the blue, which makes it all the more exciting," Cartwright said. "I can't thank Bernard [Guasch, Catalans CEO] enough for this opportunity."

Catalans currently sit eighth in the Super League table, two points ahead of Hull FC in ninth.
