Snowball Earth Season 2- Official PV

The new season was announced with a preview trailer showcasing kaiju, giant robots, a cursed cat, and a father figure without eyeballs. While a release date wasn’t announced, it’s a relatively promising sign that there’s already enough animation for a teaser. Toho Animation’s YouTube channel offers the following description of the series:

“Yukio, I’m going to make a friend.”

For shy young Tetsuo, the only friend he’s ever known is the giant robot Yukio. Together, they defended humanity as its “saviors,” standing against galactic monsters that invaded from space. A decade has passed since their final, desperate battle for humanity’s survival.

When Tetsuo finally returns to Earth, he finds a world transformed into a frozen wasteland—an icebound planet now known as Snowball Earth. Carrying the promise he once made to Yukio deep in his heart, Tetsuo takes his first steps into this strange new world.

The anime is based on the manga of the same name by Yuhiro Tsujitsugi, which has run for 11 volumes in Monthly! Spirits (Shogakukan). It has sold over 800,000 copies worldwide. Viz Media licensed the English release and has published the first eight volumes, with the ninth scheduled for Aug. 18, 2026.

The first season of Snowball Earth was animated by Studio Kai, a team coming hot off one of this year’s biggest surprises, the dark fantasy series Sentenced to Be a Hero. It also handled another breakout from the spring 2026 season, The Ramparts of Ice, and is responsible for several seasons of _Umamusume: Pretty Derby_, among other series. Unfortunately, the studio filed for insolvency in April after reporting a loss of ¥565 million in 2025.The season 2 announcement message for Snowball Earth didn’t confirm whether Studio Kai will (somehow) return for production or whether the show will be handled by a new studio.
