Karen Read's infamous Lexus SUV—the vehicle she was accused of using in the death of her Boston police officer boyfriend—was sold in a private sale just before it was set to go to auction.
The Lexus was scheduled to be auctioned by Manzi Appraisers in Woburn, Massachusetts, where prospective bidders had to demonstrate at least $20,000 in their bank accounts to register. While some potential buyers showed up with bidding signs, the auction was abruptly canceled after an outside group made an undisclosed offer.
The SUV's current owner is now finalizing the deal with the mystery buyers, with proceeds expected to go toward Read's legal defense fund.
Prosecutors had alleged that Read used the SUV to strike and kill her boyfriend, John O'Keefe, during a snowy night in Canton in 2022. After a mistrial in her first case, Read was acquitted at retrial in 2025.
