Katie Courid Praises Matt Lauer Accuser as 'Very Brave' for New Memoir

Former Today show anchor Katie Couric has called Brooke Nevils, the woman who accused Matt Lauer of rape, "very brave" for sharing her story in a new memoir.

Couric made the remarks at the City Harvest Presents The 2026 Gala: Shaken, Not Stirred, telling Page Six that she had read an excerpt from Nevils' book, Unspeakable Things: Silence, Shame and the Stories We Choose to Believe.

"I feel terrible for her," Couric said. "I think she's very brave to write the book."

Nevils' memoir, released in January, details an alleged 2014 assault where she says Lauer insisted on anal sex while she was drunk and alone. She woke up in a pool of blood. Nevils also writes that she later initiated a consensual encounter in an attempt to regain control, but says it backfired.

Couric co-anchored the Today show with Lauer from 1995 to 2006. She is one of the few former colleagues to publicly comment on the allegations.
