Katie Thurston, known for her season of The Bachelorette, has taken a significant step in her battle against stage four breast cancer. On April 29, she underwent a double mastectomy, with her husband, comedian Jeff Arcuri, providing reassuring updates throughout the day.
“She is in amazing hands and spirits are high,” Jeff wrote in an Instagram Story before the surgery. He later confirmed, “Katie is out of surgery and everything went great.”
Katie, 35, maintained her sense of humor ahead of the procedure. In a pre-op video, she joked about her hospital gown, saying, “These are my new boobs actually. It’s for you, baby.” After surgery, she shared a clip of herself enjoying hospital food while watching Monsters, Inc., and praised Jeff for his care: “My sweet, sweet husband is staying the night right there.”
Jeff, who married Katie in March 2025, called her a “beautiful badass” as he documented the journey.
Katie announced her breast cancer diagnosis in February 2025, initially stage three, which later progressed to stage four with liver involvement. She chose the double mastectomy despite uncertain outcomes, saying, “I want to do everything I can to increase my chances.”
Her openness about the process has resonated with many. As she wrote in a March social media post, “F--k cancer.”
