Country music star Kelsea Ballerini is embracing a fresh start in New York City this summer, clarifying that her much-discussed move from Nashville is a temporary adventure rather than a permanent relocation.
"I'm not permanently moving," Ballerini exclusively told E! News at the Fashion Trust U.S. Awards in Los Angeles on April 7. "I'm just there through the summer, and I'm loving it so much."
The 32-year-old singer, whose on-again, off-again relationship with actor Chase Stokes ended definitively in February, described her New York experience as a period of self-discovery.
"I'm just discovering. It's so fun," she continued. "I feel this resurgence of energy. It's been really nice, and I'm really excited."
Ballerini revealed that exploring the city and "just doing stuff for myself" has become a surprising source of inspiration. Among her summer goals? Finding the perfect spicy rigatoni dish.
"I'm on a mission to find the best spicy rigatoni," she admitted, noting she's more focused on pasta than pizza. "That's my Italian, that's my heart. I gotta go find it."
The culinary quest comes after several months of relationship turbulence. Ballerini and Stokes first confirmed their breakup in September after three years together, briefly rekindled their romance in December, but ultimately parted ways again in February despite appearing together at the Grammys just a week prior.
Through the personal transitions, Ballerini has maintained an optimistic perspective. In a February Instagram Story, she reflected on unexpected endings and personal growth.
"This year asked you to shed layers you didn't even realize you were still carrying," she wrote. "It brought endings you didn't expect, lessons you didn't ask for, and moments that tested your patience, strength, and faith. But look at you. You're still here. Wiser. Stronger. More aware of who you are and what you deserve."
Now settled into her temporary New York residence, Ballerini appears focused on embracing her summer adventure with renewed energy and culinary curiosity.
