Kenya's Sebastian Sawe Shatters Two-Hour Marathon Barrier in London

In a historic achievement, Kenya's Sebastian Sawe became the first man to complete a marathon in under two hours, clocking 1:59:59 at the London Marathon. This shatters Kelvin Kiptum's previous world record of 2:00:35, set in Chicago last year.

Sawe, 28, led from the start, pacing perfectly with the help of pacemakers. He crossed the finish line at The Mall, collapsing in exhaustion and joy as the crowd roared.

"This is a dream come true. I knew I had it in me, but to actually do it is unbelievable," Sawe said.

In the women's race, Ethiopia's Tigist Assefa successfully defended her title, finishing in 2:16:34. Assefa, who also holds the women's world record, dominated the field from the halfway point.

The London Marathon, known for its flat and fast course, provided ideal conditions with mild temperatures and light winds. Race organizers praised the athletes' performances and the event's role in pushing human limits.
