The four-day state visit by King Charles and Queen Camilla to the United States has concluded, leaving analysts to ponder its impact on the often-fraught "special relationship" between the UK and US.
The visit, the first by a British monarch since 2007, was widely seen as an effort to ease tensions between UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and US President Donald Trump, following disagreements over the Iran conflict and the Chagos Islands. Highlights included King Charles addressing Congress, attending formal banquets, and presenting President Trump with a bell from the WWII submarine HMS Trump.
However, as BBC's North America editor Sarah Smith notes, President Trump is notoriously unpredictable in his allegiances, leaving the true diplomatic gains of the visit open to debate.
