The punk band Lambrini Girls has been forced to withdraw from the highly anticipated Coachella 2026 lineup following a severe medical crisis involving lead singer Phoebe Lunny. The musician sustained a fractured neck and an acute brain injury, rendering her unable to perform.
Phoebe Lunny shared the devastating news with fans in a heartfelt Instagram post on April 8, expressing the band's profound disappointment. "We are so gutted, guys," she wrote. "We want to be there so badly." She emphasized the gravity of the situation, contrasting it with a more manageable injury: "If it was a broken leg, I would do a Dave Grohl and play it. This isn't something we are taking lightly and we are really sad. Because it is my neck and brain, our hands are tied for now."
The injury occurred while Phoebe was in Australia and was initially misdiagnosed, leading to a delay in receiving proper treatment. Doctors have now mandated a strict six-week recovery period, prohibiting both flying and performing. "Doctors' orders are I can't fly or perform for 6 weeks," Phoebe stated, adding a note of resilience: "But I'm lucky and expect a speedy recovery thank f--k lol."
Despite the setback, Phoebe maintained her characteristic spirit, posting a photo from the hospital that playfully revealed her thong under her gown. She also reflected on what the band's performances mean to her and their fans: "Seeing people of all ages, genders and backgrounds come together to mosh, lift each other up, cry, scream in both parts joyful and angry, is my greatest joy. Thank you for always showing up for us."
This incident marks the second time in recent months that Lambrini Girls has faced a tour interruption. In September, bassist Selin Macieira-Bosgelmez (formerly known as Lilly Macieira) announced a one-month break from touring to prioritize her mental health. In an Instagram statement, Selin opened up about her lifelong struggles with undiagnosed bipolar disorder and autism, which culminated in an intense manic episode. "I've always struggled badly in touring environments... I've lived entirely accustomed to severe discomfort as a baseline for existence," she wrote, explaining her decision to step back and "mend the foundations."
While fans will miss Lambrini Girls' explosive energy on the Coachella stage, the band's focus remains squarely on Phoebe's recovery and long-term health.
