Law Roach, the master stylist behind Zendaya's most unforgettable red carpet moments, has pulled back the curtain on the intense preparation that goes into the Met Gala. In a recent Reddit AMA, Roach detailed that planning for the star-studded event begins a full five months in advance.
"It all starts with what the designer says the client is going with," Roach wrote. "Once that's figured out, we just have a conversation about inspiration, and then I take it back to my team."
From there, the team collaborates with a fashion house, where the designer creates a custom piece blending the brand's signature codes with the client's personal style. But for Roach, the client always comes first.
"I always like to start with the client, right? Because they're the person who, at the end of it, wears the look, so always get feedback from your client."
Roach also acknowledged the immense pressure of the Met Gala carpet, noting that months of hard work culminate in just five minutes of walking. "It's a lot of stress and they're only on the carpet for like five minutes," he told E! News, "and then you go in and it's all over."
Despite the stress, Roach's bond with Zendaya makes the process seamless. "Our relationship is so symbiotic that it could be one dress it could be a thousand dresses," he said. "You just never know."
The stylist, who also works with Ariana Grande and Céline Dion, reflected on fashion's importance in his life, jokingly adding, "Without fashion, I would probably be a dentist maybe. It really allows you to be whoever you want to be."
