Leicester City are closing in on the appointment of Russell Martin as their new manager, with a final decision expected this weekend.
The 40-year-old former Scotland defender has been out of work since being sacked by Rangers in October after just 17 games in charge. He has previously managed MK Dons, Swansea City, and Southampton, whom he led to Premier League promotion via the Championship play-offs in 2024.
Leicester had targeted Martin last summer before he joined Rangers, but ultimately appointed Marti Cifuentes, who lasted only six months before being dismissed in January. Interim boss Gary Rowett took over but could not prevent the Foxes from slipping into League One after consecutive relegations from the Premier League.
Martin will become Leicester's seventh permanent manager in just over three years since Brendan Rodgers left in April 2023. The club also faced a six-point deduction for breaching EFL financial regulations.
Despite a difficult spell at Rangers, Martin had several options this summer and is now expected to take the reins at the King Power Stadium.
