England and Leicestershire leg-spinning all-rounder Rehan Ahmed has signed with Delhi Capitals for the remainder of the 2025 Indian Premier League season. The 21-year-old, who has represented England in 27 international matches across all formats, will fly out immediately and remain with the franchise at least through the group stage, which ends on May 24.
Ahmed, earning £60,000 for his stint, will miss Leicestershire's next four County Championship matches and at least their first two T20 Blast group games. Delhi Capitals currently sit fifth in the IPL standings with a 3-3 record.
"We're absolutely delighted for Rehan and incredibly proud as a club to see him earn this opportunity," said Leicestershire's director of cricket, Claude Henderson. "It's a real testament to the hard work of everyone within our academy and pathway system, and exactly what we strive for. We're excited to watch him go and express himself, and we'll be right behind him every step of the way before welcoming him back to Leicester."
Ahmed has taken six wickets and scored 56 runs in Leicestershire's first two red-ball matches this season as the county returned to Division One of the County Championship.
