Liberal Democrat MP Cameron Thomas Arrested on Assault and Coercion Charges

Liberal Democrat MP Cameron Thomas has been arrested on suspicion of assault and controlling and coercive behavior, according to sources familiar with the case. Gloucestershire Police confirmed that a man in his 40s from Tewkesbury was taken into custody on Wednesday, interviewed, and subsequently released on police bail.

A spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats announced that Thomas, who represents the Tewkesbury constituency, has been suspended from the party pending the outcome of the police investigation. “Allegations of this nature are extremely serious, and it is important that the police are able to investigate properly,” the spokesperson said, declining further comment while the probe continues.

Thomas, 43, a former RAF officer who has served as MP since the 2024 general election, now sits as an independent. The BBC understands his parliamentary access has been temporarily revoked.

The BBC has reached out to Thomas and his party for additional details regarding the allegations.

Gloucestershire Police stated: “On Wednesday, a man in his 40s from Tewkesbury was arrested on suspicion of controlling and coercive behaviour and assault. The man was interviewed by officers before later being released on police bail.”
