The Massachusetts mother accused of murdering her three young children appeared in court on Thursday with a haunting, vacant expression, as her attorney described her as a "vegetable practically" due to medication.
Lindsay Clancy, 35, arrived in a wheelchair for the final pretrial conference hearing. Her lawyer argued she suffered from severe postpartum psychosis and was overmedicated at the time of the January 2023 killings. Clancy is charged with three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation in the deaths of her children: Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month-old Callan.
Prosecutors allege Clancy used elastic workout bands to strangle her children in their Duxbury home, then slashed her own wrists and throat before jumping from a second-floor window, leaving her paralyzed.
The defense is expected to pursue a not-guilty-by-reason-of-insanity plea. Clancy's trial is scheduled to begin July 20.
