LINE has reported another malfunction in its feature that allows complete chat history transfer between iOS and Android devices. The latest issue prevents some users from restoring certain chat histories due to a failure in saving public keys.
The company announced on May 1, 2026, that the problem affects users who attempted to migrate their chat history using the cross-platform feature. While the transfer process appears to complete successfully, some messages remain inaccessible because the public key data was not properly stored during the migration.
This is not the first time LINE's chat transfer tool has encountered problems. Previous iterations also suffered from data loss or incomplete transfers, leading to user frustration. The company has stated that it is investigating the root cause and will release a fix in a future update.
In the meantime, LINE advises users to back up their chat history regularly as a precaution. The company also recommends checking if all data is intact after any transfer attempt.
