LIV Golf May Move New Orleans Event to Fall Amid Uncertainty Over Its Future

LIV Golf is considering rescheduling its June tournament in New Orleans to September or October, according to sources, as the breakaway tour continues to face questions about its long-term viability.

The Saudi Arabia-backed series has been in discussions with local officials in Louisiana about shifting the event to later in the year to avoid peak summer heat and ensure the Bayou Oaks course at City Park is in optimal condition. LIV bosses also want to avoid a clash with the World Cup.

If the move goes ahead, LIV Golf would have no tournaments in the United States from May 10 until August 6, when it heads to Trump Bedminster in New Jersey. This has only fueled speculation that Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) may be ending its support for the tour.

Earlier this month, LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil assured players that the 2026 season would continue "as planned and uninterrupted" amid rumors of the tour's collapse. However, reports suggest the state of Louisiana spent $7 million (£5.1 million) on the event, including $2 million (£1.5 million) to upgrade Bayou Oaks and $5 million (£3.7 million) as a hosting fee for LIV.

A joint statement from LIV Golf, the governor of Louisiana, and Louisiana Economic Development is expected on Tuesday.

The tour's financial troubles are mounting. Overall investment from PIF has surpassed $5 billion (£3.8 billion), and net losses outside the U.S. reached $462 million (£340 million) in 2024, bringing total losses since 2021 to over $1.1 billion (£810 million). Industry insiders predict 2026 could be LIV's last season, with one source describing the situation as a potential rapid collapse.
