Liverpool's Konate on Brink of New Deal, Vows to Stay at Anfield

Ibrahima Konate has revealed he is nearing a contract extension with Liverpool, expressing strong confidence that he will remain at the club next season.

The French defender, whose current deal expires this summer, stated that negotiations have progressed positively and an agreement is imminent. "We are close to an agreement," Konate said. "For sure, there is a big chance that I'm here next season. This is what I've always wanted."

Konate joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021 for £35 million and has since made 113 Premier League appearances, contributing to the club's league title last season and domestic cup successes in 2022. Despite a challenging personal year—including the loss of his father in January—Konate emphasized his commitment to the Reds, even cutting short compassionate leave due to defensive injury crises.

"It's such an amazing club and amazing family... This club means so much to me," he added.

Addressing speculation about his future, Konate hinted that sporting director Richard Hughes would soon clarify the situation, noting that protracted negotiations mirror past cases like Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah. "When everything is sorted, you will have to ask Richard what I said to him... he's going to say something to make everyone quiet," Konate remarked.

Liverpool, currently fifth in the Premier League and poised for Champions League qualification, faces a trophy-less season, but Konate remains optimistic about future campaigns. "For sure with this kind of a season, we have to give our all next season to make something good," he concluded.
