First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos on Monday led the second wave of the “Bawat Bayan Makikinabang Rice Distribution” program for 4,400 senior citizen beneficiaries at the FilOil Centre in San Juan City.

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said each beneficiary received 10 kilograms of rice under the initiative, which is funded through the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF).

Zamora said a total of 8,898 senior citizens in San Juan City are expected to benefit from the rice distribution program.

According to a report by Super Radyo dzBB’s Mark Makalalad, the list of beneficiaries was based on the names submitted by each barangay’s Association of Senior Citizens. The distribution is expected to continue for four months until November.

“This initiative reflects the continuing commitment of the national government, headed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., to ensure food security and provide much-needed assistance to Filipino families,” Zamora said.

In her message, Marcos recalled her experience in San Juan during the COVID-19 pandemic, where she got vaccinated.

“And here I am now giving you all [rice]. Grabe yung mundo ‘di ba? Paikot-ikot,” Marcos said.

(And here I am now, giving you all rice. The world is really unpredictable, isn't it? It just goes around and around.)

“Maraming salamat po sa inyo, andito po ako dahil, hindi dahil sa COVID at injection. Nandito ako dahil ‘yung inyong mayor na [magiging] senador, sa FilOil, 'no? Sama-sama tayong babangon muli,” Marcos said.

(Thank you very much. I am here not because of COVID or vaccinations, but because of your mayor, who will be a senator… Together, we will rise again.)

The First Lady is also set to lead similar rice distribution activities in other parts of Metro Manila and in Bacolod City over the next two weeks:

  • Tuesday, June 30 (Valenzuela) – Amphitheater, Barangay Karuhatan
  • Wednesday, July 8 (Muntinlupa) – Muntinlupa Sports Complex, Tunasan Baywalk, Buendia Street
  • Thursday, July 9 (Parañaque) – Parañaque Sports Complex, Dr. A. Santos Avenue, Barangay San Antonio
  • Friday, July 10 (Mandaluyong) – Mandaluyong College of Science and Technology Gymnasium, Barangay Addition Hills
  • Saturday, July 11 (Bacolod City) – STI West Negros University Gym, Burgos Street
