The 2018 Toyota Camry that Mackenzie Shirilla drove into a wall, killing two passengers, was listed as an asset in her parents' bankruptcy just two months before the deadly crash, according to court documents obtained by TMZ.
Mackenzie's parents, Natalie and Steve Shirilla, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in May 2022, reporting $398,000 in assets and $173,000 in liabilities. Among their listed assets was the 2018 Toyota Camry, valued at $18,000 with approximately 32,000 miles on it.
This same vehicle was used in the July 31, 2022 crash that killed Dominic Russo and Davion Flanagan. Prosecutors successfully argued that Mackenzie intentionally drove into a wall, leading to her life sentence for murder.
As part of the bankruptcy proceedings, the Camry could have been sold to pay creditors, but records indicate the Shirillas repurchased it. Despite the conviction, Mackenzie's parents continue to maintain her innocence.
