The singer will portray herself in a two-episode storyline that humorously reimagines her abandoned biographical film project.
According to industry reports, the show's narrative will follow fictional studio executives, led by Seth Rogen's character, as they attempt to generate Oscar buzz for a fictionalized version of Madonna's biopic at the Venice Film Festival. The storyline directly references the real-life collapse of Madonna's planned autobiographical film, which was originally slated to star Julia Garner and was to be directed by Madonna herself before the project was shelved.
Garner will also appear in the episodes, playing the fictionalized version of Madonna in the show's meta-narrative about Hollywood's filmmaking process.
The appearance marks Madonna's first acting role since her 2003 guest spot on the television sitcom Will & Grace, and her first significant on-screen performance since 2002's critically panned drama Swept Away.
