MANILA, Philippines – A powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake off the coast of Maasim, Sarangani, led to the cancellation of 17 flights at General Santos International Airport on Monday, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) reported.
Eight incoming flights and nine outgoing flights—serving routes to Manila, Cebu, and other destinations—were suspended as a safety precaution. Authorities continue to assess the airport's infrastructure for any damage.
The quake, which struck in the early morning, was felt across the region but no tsunami warning was issued. Passengers are advised to contact their airlines for rebooking and updates.
