Maguire Secures Future at Manchester United with New One-Year Deal

Harry Maguire has committed his immediate future to Manchester United by signing a new one-year contract, with the club holding an option to extend for an additional season.

The 33-year-old England international, whose previous deal was set to expire this summer, will now remain at Old Trafford for at least another campaign. Maguire joined United from Leicester City in 2019 for a then-world record £80 million fee for a defender.

"Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour. It is a responsibility that makes myself and my family proud every single day," Maguire stated. "I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club to at least eight seasons and continue to play in front of our special supporters to create more amazing moments together."

Maguire's tenure at United has seen significant highs and lows. Appointed captain just months after his arrival by former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he later faced criticism despite maintaining his place in the team under successive managers. His role diminished under Erik ten Hag, who stripped him of the captaincy in July 2023, and he initially struggled for minutes under Ruben Amorim.

However, the defender has experienced a resurgence under interim manager Michael Carrick, starting all ten matches since Carrick's appointment in mid-January. This renewed form has solidified his importance to the squad.

"You can feel the ambition and potential of this exciting squad," Maguire added. "The determination throughout the whole club to fight for major trophies is clear for everyone to see and I am confident that our best moments together remain ahead of us."

United's director of football, Jason Wilcox, praised Maguire's contribution: "Harry represents the mentality and resilience required to perform for Manchester United. He is the ultimate professional who brings invaluable experience and leadership to our young, ambitious squad."

With 266 appearances, a League Cup, and an FA Cup to his name, Maguire's renewed commitment provides stability and experience to United's defensive line as the club builds for the future.
