South African police have launched a manhunt for over a dozen suspects following a mass shooting at an informal settlement in Johannesburg that left 12 people dead.
Authorities reported that the attack occurred late Saturday night when gunmen opened fire on a group of residents. Emergency services arrived to find multiple fatalities and several injured victims.
Police spokesperson Colonel Brenda Muridili confirmed that a special task force has been deployed to track down the perpetrators. "We are following leads and urge anyone with information to come forward," she said.
Local community leaders expressed shock and demanded increased security in the area. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation, but officials are not ruling out gang-related violence.
This tragic incident adds to rising concerns about violent crime in South Africa, where police statistics show an increase in murder rates over the past year.
