Marco Silva Nears Benfica Move as Fulham Exit Looms

Fulham head coach Marco Silva is on the verge of accepting a managerial role at Benfica, with negotiations reaching an advanced stage, according to sources close to the deal.

Silva, 48, whose contract with the Cottagers expires this month, has been offered a renewal but has yet to commit to the London club. Meanwhile, discussions with the Portuguese giants have accelerated in recent days, and an agreement is now considered imminent.

Benfica are seeking a replacement for Jose Mourinho, who departed the club earlier this week to sign a three-year deal as Real Madrid's new head coach. Mourinho, 63, had returned to Benfica in September and guided them to a third-place finish in the Primeira Liga.

Silva joined Fulham in July 2021 following his stint at Everton. He swiftly restored the club to the Premier League after their relegation to the Championship, leading them to an 11th-place finish last season, level on points with Chelsea.

Fulham now face a pivotal summer as they prepare for life without their successful manager, with Silva's exit all but confirmed.
