Mariah Carey Dismisses Brother's Claims as She Fights $10M Defamation Suit

Mariah Carey is pushing back against her estranged brother Morgan Carey's allegations that she is dodging a deposition in their ongoing legal feud. According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the singer's legal team called Morgan's claims a "misguided attempt to gain perceived tactical leverage" and insists she has never refused to be deposed.

Morgan sued Mariah for $10 million in 2021, alleging that her memoir "The Meaning of Mariah Carey" defamed him by portraying him as violent and a drug dealer. He claims the book ruined his reputation and cost him work.

In a recent filing, Morgan argued that Mariah's team has repeatedly stalled, saying "enough is enough" and accusing her of hiding behind "dubious 'sources' of defamatory statements."

Mariah's lawyer countered that Morgan's "meritless motions" have contributed to delays, and that she will appear for a deposition once the court rules on her motion to dismiss the case. She also stated that the information about her brother's alleged drug dealing came from multiple sources and that other disputed claims are substantially true.

A judge has not yet ruled on the matter.
