Mark Cuban, the former owner of the Dallas Mavericks, disclosed that he made an effort to buy back the NBA franchise after selling a majority stake to the Adelson and Dumont families in late 2023. Speaking on a podcast, Cuban said he tried to purchase the team from the new owners but his offer was rejected.
Cuban, who owned the Mavericks for 24 years and led them to an NBA championship in 2011, sold a controlling interest in the team to the Adelson family, owners of Las Vegas Sands Corp., for a reported $3.5 billion valuation. He retained a minority stake and continues to oversee basketball operations.
"I tried to buy it back," Cuban said. "I made an offer, but they said no." He did not disclose the amount he offered. The revelation comes amid speculation about Cuban's future role with the team and potential interest in other NBA ownership opportunities.
