Martha Stewart Confirms Cate Blanchett Biopic Plans with Playful Title Tease

Martha Stewart has addressed swirling rumors about a biographical film chronicling her life, hinting at a project currently in development with Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett attached to portray her.

Stewart confirmed the speculation during a red carpet appearance at a New York screening on April 14, telling Variety she had been "hearing rumors" about the film. "I think there's something in the works right now with Cate Blanchett," she revealed, adding that the project already has a working title: Good Thing. The title is a clever nod to Stewart's signature catchphrase, "It's a good thing."

Earlier that same day, trade publication Variety reported that the biopic is indeed moving forward, with Zola director Janicza Bravo set to helm the project.

While a cinematic portrayal of her storied career may be on the horizon, Stewart's life has already been extensively documented. Her 2024 Netflix documentary, Martha, detailed her rise from model and stockbroker to becoming a lifestyle empire mogul and television personality.

In that film, Stewart reflected on her personal philosophy, stating, "I have two mottos. One is learn something new every day, and the second one is when you're through changing, you're through."

The documentary also touched on a more challenging chapter: her 2004 conviction and subsequent five-month prison sentence for conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and making false statements to federal investigators. Stewart has consistently downplayed the significance of this period. In an October 2024 interview with the New York Times, she described the incarceration as "a vacation" and called the trial "extremely boring," even claiming the judge fell asleep during proceedings.

As fans await further details on the Blanchett-led biopic, Stewart's own documentary offered several personal revelations, including details about her first marriage to Andrew Stewart, which ended in divorce in 1990.
