Massive Fire in Manila's Parola Compound Displaces 2,500 Families

A devastating fire swept through the Parola Compound in Manila on Sunday, leaving at least 2,500 families homeless, according to Mayor Honey Lacuna. The blaze, which started in the early afternoon, rapidly engulfed the densely populated area, destroying hundreds of makeshift homes.

Firefighters battled the flames for several hours before bringing the fire under control. No casualties have been reported so far, but authorities are still assessing the full extent of the damage. The Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) has set up evacuation centers in nearby schools and covered courts to accommodate the displaced residents.

Mayor Lacuna assured the public that the city government is providing assistance, including food, water, and medical aid. "We are doing everything we can to help the affected families. We will also look into providing temporary shelter and rebuilding assistance," she said in a statement.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols to prevent similar incidents.
