The People Power Party (PPP) has accused MBC News Desk of election interference over a closing commentary that questioned the party’s nomination of Rep. Choo Kyung-ho as a candidate for Daegu mayor. The PPP threatened to boycott MBC if the broadcaster does not apologize.

Anchor Hwang Yeon-shil defended the remark, stating that it simply pointed out the problem of nominating a person indicted on insurrection-related charges. Choo is accused of obstructing the National Assembly vote to lift martial law by gathering fellow PPP lawmakers at the party headquarters instead of the Assembly.

“The commentary was a legitimate journalistic critique, not election interference,” Hwang said. “We ask the PPP: What was the intention behind nominating such a candidate?”

The dispute highlights the ongoing tension between the PPP and media outlets over coverage of political figures involved in the martial law controversy.
