McLaren Dominates Miami Sprint: Norris Leads One-Two Finish

Lando Norris secured McLaren's first victory of the season with a commanding performance in the Miami Grand Prix sprint race, leading from start to finish after starting on pole.

The world champion converted his pole position into a lead at the first corner and controlled the race with ease, managing his tires carefully before pulling away from his teammate Oscar Piastri.

McLaren locked out the top two spots, with Piastri finishing second despite late pressure from Ferrari's Charles Leclerc in the closing laps. Kimi Antonelli initially finished fourth on track for Mercedes but received a five-second penalty for exceeding track limits, dropping him behind George Russell and Max Verstappen.

"Nice to be back on the top step, even if it is the sprint," Norris said. "It was a good day for us, massive job to the team in bringing the upgrades."

The victory marks a strong statement for McLaren after a difficult start to the season, following a major upgrade package introduced this weekend.

Piastri stayed close to Norris in the opening laps, but his teammate managed the gap skillfully before extending it. Leclerc briefly threatened the Australian before Piastri reasserted his pace in the final laps.

Antonelli's penalty dropped him below Russell and Verstappen in the final classification. The 19-year-old admitted his performance was below par: "I didn't even drive well, I made a lot of mistakes, I got track limits."

Russell expressed concern about the competition's pace, noting the improvements from Ferrari, McLaren, and Red Bull were "daunting."
