Tokyo police are investigating a brazen theft at a members-only safe deposit box facility in Hachioji City, where burglars broke into a box and made off with more than 400 million yen (approximately $2.8 million) in cash.
According to investigators, the perpetrators used a dedicated key card to gain entry into the facility, which is typically accessible only to members. Security cameras captured multiple individuals at the scene, though their identities have not yet been confirmed.
Authorities believe the suspects targeted a specific safe deposit box, possibly with prior knowledge of its contents. The cash, reportedly stored in a single box, may have been the focus of the operation.
No arrests have been made, and police are analyzing surveillance footage and investigating how the suspects obtained the key card. The facility management is cooperating fully with the investigation.
