Microsoft is taking another bold step into Arm-based Windows laptops, this time partnering with Nvidia for its flagship Surface Laptop Ultra. The new device features an Nvidia RTX Spark chip, marking a return to the strategy that originally led to the Surface RT.

Once upon a time, Microsoft had to write off $900 million betting an Arm-based Nvidia chip could power its first flagship Windows portable, the original Microsoft Surface. But today, it’s trying again. Microsoft and Nvidia have just announced the Surface Laptop Ultra, a computer with Nvidia’s Arm-based RTX Spark graphics integrated.

The company has released only a shadowy render of the device so far, but the partnership signals a significant shift in Microsoft's hardware approach. By combining its Surface expertise with Nvidia's graphics prowess, the Surface Laptop Ultra aims to deliver high performance in a thin and light form factor.

This shadowy render is the best glimpse Microsoft is giving us so far.

More details are expected in the coming weeks as the device nears its launch.
