MANILA, Philippines – The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) placed the Mindanao grid under a yellow alert on Wednesday following the disruption caused by a powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake that affected major power plants.
The yellow alert is in effect from 12 noon to 3 p.m., according to an advisory from the grid operator. The alert indicates that the power supply is insufficient to meet the region's demand, and the grid is operating at a thin margin.
The earthquake, which struck earlier, has impacted the operations of large power plants, leading to the reduced power generation capacity. The NGCP continues to monitor the situation and coordinate with power plant operators to restore normal operations as soon as possible.
