Muse have released 'Cryogen', the third single from their upcoming 10th studio album 'The Wow! Signal'. The track, which debuted live at Brixton Academy earlier this month, is a throwback to the band's early 2000s space-rock sound, with a wailing guitar riff reminiscent of 'Plug In Baby'.
Produced by live member Dan Lancaster (Bring Me The Horizon, Blink-182) and Aleks von Korff, 'Cryogen' blends gothic elements from 'Origin of Symmetry' with the stadium-filling anthems of 'Black Holes & Revelations'. Lyrically, frontman Matt Bellamy channels heartache through an icy, apocalyptic lens: "Winter's end, she's Europa, I'm a cracked interloper / Icicles pierce my heart so cruel and quiet / Loneliness, she left me trembling in a polar desert / Wilderness, I'm breaking… Cryogen, I can never cry again / Cryogen, I'm freezing over."
'Cryogen' follows previous singles 'Unravelling' and 'Be With You', which launched the album campaign. 'The Wow! Signal' is set for release in June.
