Sara Gore, the host of NBC New York's New York Live and Open House, has announced she is taking a leave of absence after being diagnosed with breast cancer. In an emotional on-air segment on April 30, Gore shared the news with viewers, fighting back tears as she explained her decision to step away for treatment and surgery.
"It just felt right to tell you myself," she said. "I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and I’m going to be stepping away for treatment and surgery." Gore, 49, admitted she was scared and caught off guard, despite having a family history of the disease. "I always assumed this day would come, but let me tell you, you are never ready," she said.
She emphasized the emotional impact of the diagnosis, saying, "It is an emotional blow, and I wasn't ready for that." However, Gore expressed gratitude for the support of her family, medical team, and colleagues. "I feel very supported," she added. "As hard as this is, I am choosing to believe there is a gift in this, even if I don't fully understand it yet."
In a separate Instagram video shared by Open House, Gore struck a determined tone: "I'm going to nip this thing in the bud. I'm going to kick cancer's ass." The mother of three, who shares children with husband Matthew Miele, vowed to face the challenge head-on.
