The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced that the driver of a National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) official, involved in a shooting incident at the Senate, is now facing multiple charges. Authorities have leveled serious accusations against the driver in connection with the event that disrupted proceedings at the legislative building.
Police officials stated that the driver will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, frustrated homicide, and damage to property, among others. The incident, which occurred earlier this week, left one person dead and several others injured.
Investigations revealed that the driver, whose identity has not been disclosed pending formal charges, allegedly lost control of the vehicle, leading to the tragic outcome. The PNP assured the public that a thorough inquiry is underway to ensure justice is served.
"We are committed to holding the responsible individual accountable," a PNP spokesperson said. "The charges reflect the severity of the incident."
The shooting has sparked concerns over security protocols at the Senate, with lawmakers calling for a review of safety measures. The NBI has also launched its own internal investigation to determine if any lapses occurred.
As the legal process unfolds, the driver remains in police custody. Further developments are expected as the case progresses through the courts.
