NCT's Ten Embarks on Solo Journey, Parts Ways with SM Entertainment While Staying with Groups

Ten, the Thai-born singer known for his roles in the K-pop groups NCT and its Chinese sub-unit WayV, has announced his departure from long-time label SM Entertainment. The move, effective April 8, marks a significant shift as he approaches his 10th anniversary in the industry.

In an official statement released via Weverse, SM Entertainment confirmed the mutual decision, stating: "Following careful and extensive discussions regarding Ten’s future direction, we have reached a mutual understanding to conclude his exclusive contract." The label emphasized that communication would continue to facilitate Ten's participation in future NCT and WayV activities.

Ten addressed fans directly through a heartfelt letter shared on his Instagram story, available in Korean, English, and Thai. He explained that the choice came "after a lot of thought and many heartfelt discussions with the members and the staff at SM."

"As I approach my 10th anniversary, I’ve found myself wanting to take on new challenges, explore new possibilities, and discover new versions of myself," Ten wrote.

While expressing gratitude to the label, his fellow members, and supporters, he assured fans that his group affiliations remain intact. "I will continue my activities as Ten of NCT and WayV," he affirmed, adding that he looks forward to showcasing "new sides of 'Ten' and to evolve in new ways as a solo artist in this next chapter."

The announcement has sparked discussions among fans about the evolving landscape of K-pop careers, where artists increasingly navigate solo endeavors alongside group commitments. Ten's dual path—maintaining his place in popular groups while pursuing independent artistic growth—highlights this modern industry trend.
