Neco Williams Ready for Well-Deserved Rest After Grueling Season

Wales and Nottingham Forest defender Neco Williams says he has relished the challenges of a marathon campaign but is now looking forward to a break after playing nearly 60 games this season.

The 25-year-old played the full 90 minutes in Wales' 1-1 friendly draw with Ghana in Cardiff and could make his 63rd appearance of the season if he features against Romania in Bucharest on Saturday.

"It's tiring, but this is what we get paid to do and I enjoy it," Williams said. "As a footballer you want to play as many games as possible. If I only played a couple, I wouldn't be happy, but playing that many means you're doing something right."

Williams was a key figure for Forest last term, featuring in 53 games as they secured Premier League survival and reached the Europa League semi-finals. He was named the club's Player of the Season, and Forest have opened talks over a contract extension.

"It's physically and mentally tough, but we're professional enough to handle what's thrown at us," he added. "I'll be going straight on holiday, having a few cocktails and putting my feet up on the beach. We'll get a couple of weeks off and then straight back into it."

Williams also provided the cross for substitute Lewis Koumas to score a stoppage-time equalizer against Ghana, the Liverpool youngster's first senior Wales goal.

"He's been waiting for that moment for a while, and I'm glad he got it," Williams said. "We had a few chances and on another night we score more. We have to take the positives and focus on finishing the season with a win."
