Neil Young Unveils New Album Featuring Songs Written 63 Years Ago

Neil Young has revealed that his upcoming album includes three tracks he originally penned back in 1963. The folk legend shared the news on his Neil Young Archives site, detailing how the record came together with his band, the Chrome Hearts, at Rick Rubin's Shangri-La studio in Malibu.

According to Young, the album was mastered during a recent full moon. "It's quite a special album to me. Music is a gift and when it comes like this I really feel it," he wrote. The sessions yielded five new songs, but when the band needed more material, Young recalled an unreleased tune from 1963 that had been stuck in his head. "I checked it out in the archives and found it was from 1963, unreleased. There were more. I found three others with it… also unreleased!"

The album, which Young describes as "a complete mastered record, ready to go," will feature all eight songs—three from 1963 and five brand-new ones. It follows the upcoming Chrome Hearts live album 'As Time Explodes', recorded during their 2025 tours. Young expressed his excitement, noting that the entire project came together quickly: "We finished mixing and assembling one month later on the next full moon… April 1st. It was fast!"
