Nick Cannon is drawing a line when it comes to his 15-year-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan, whom he shares with ex-wife Mariah Carey. On the May 2 episode of The TMZ Podcast, the Wild 'N Out star revealed that while he encourages his son Moroccan to date, he strictly forbids his daughter Monroe from doing the same.
"My son has been dating, and I've allowed it, I encouraged it," Cannon said. But when asked if Monroe gets the same freedom, he replied, "No, absolutely not."
Cannon acknowledged the disparity, calling it a "double standard" but defending his stance. "There is a difference when parenting a son and then when parenting a daughter," he explained. "I am more protective of my daughter because there are things out there that I have to protect my daughter from."
The comedian, who is also father to 10 younger children, stressed that his protectiveness stems from fear of harm. "If somebody puts their hands on my daughter, I'm going to jail," he warned. In contrast, he expressed fewer concerns about Moroccan, joking, "He got a whole lot of money. His mama's Mariah Carey!"
Despite his strict rules, Cannon said Monroe can date if she follows one condition: "She can explain to me what's going to happen on these dates. Your twin brother can go with you. But you ain't going one-on-one with no little bastard anywhere."
