Melissa Schuman, who has accused Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter of sexual assault, is seeking court permission to file her medical records under seal, citing a history of harassment and threats from Carter's fans.
In new court documents, Schuman claims she has been subjected to a campaign of intimidation, doxxing, and harassment since coming forward with her allegations. She says her home address was leaked, she received anonymous mail, and messages encouraging self-harm were sent to her. She also alleges coordinated efforts to discredit her.
Schuman is also requesting that the transcript of her deposition be sealed. A judge has not yet ruled on the motions.
Carter has countersued Schuman, arguing that her claims are false and have caused significant damage to his career and family. His legal team has described Schuman's actions as a "plot to smear" his image and an attempt to extort a settlement.
The legal battle stems from Schuman's lawsuit alleging Carter sexually assaulted her in 2003 at his Santa Monica apartment. Carter denies the allegations and countersued. Recently, Carter submitted witness declarations from people who claim they saw nothing unusual on the night in question.
The case remains ongoing.
