Nicole Kidman's Daily 2-Minute Hug Rule with Her Teen Daughters

Nicole Kidman has a simple yet powerful daily ritual with her teenage daughters: a two-minute hug. The Oscar-winning actress revealed that she insists on a daily embrace with Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 15, explaining that it releases beneficial chemicals in the body.

Speaking at the HISTORYtalks event in Philadelphia, Kidman shared that her daughters humorously object to the rule but comply. "Both my daughters will kill me for saying this," she admitted, "but I'm like, 'You need to hug me for two minutes a day.' It releases certain chemicals in the body, and everyone needs to be hugged for about two minutes a day."

The actress, who shares her daughters with ex-husband Keith Urban, described parenting teenagers as "extraordinary" and said they are "so close, the three of us, we talk about everything." She emphasized the importance of being present and listening, sometimes sitting on the edge of their beds when they want to talk.

Kidman also credited her late mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, for teaching her resilience. "Don't ever let anyone break your spirit," she recalled her mother saying. Janelle, who passed away in 2024, convinced Kidman not to retire from acting in 2008 when she was pregnant with Sunday Rose and living in Nashville. "My mother was like… 'I wouldn't completely give up. You've been doing this since you were little. It's your makeup.' And thank God she said that."

Kidman hopes the values of social justice and caring for others that her parents instilled in her have also penetrated her daughters.
