Fans hoping for the triumphant return of the self-proclaimed "Greatest Band on Earth" will have to put their Picks of Destiny away. Jack Black has definitively confirmed that comedy-rock duo Tenacious D is not getting back together anytime soon.

While out in New York City on Thursday afternoon, the actor and musician was asked about the band's future. Black plainly stated that he and longtime bandmate Kyle Gass currently have absolutely zero plans to collaborate on new music, tours, or projects.

Black's firm denial paints a starkly different picture from the one Gass recently offered to fans. In a January interview with Rolling Stone, Gass fueled massive speculation by claiming a Tenacious D comeback was inevitable, even boldly declaring that their eventual return would "be bigger than Oasis." However, Black’s latest comments suggest Gass’s enthusiastic timeline was more wishful thinking than a concrete itinerary.

The beloved musical duo has been on ice since a massive controversy erupted during a live performance in July 2024. While celebrating his birthday onstage shortly after an assassination attempt on Donald Trump, Gass made a highly publicized remark, telling the crowd, "Don't miss Trump next time." The intense backlash prompted Black to immediately cancel the remainder of their tour, stating he was "blindsided" by the comment, and put all future creative endeavors for the band on an indefinite hold.

For now, it appears the hiatus remains firmly in place. Tenacious D fans will just have to keep waiting for the acoustic metal legends to rock again.
