NYPD Mounted Officer Pursues Suspect Through Manhattan Streets in Dramatic Chase

Body camera footage captured a dramatic scene in New York City as a police officer on horseback chased a suspect through busy urban streets. The NYPD officer, patrolling on horseback, spotted a woman believed to be involved in a purse-snatching incident and immediately gave pursuit.

As the officer repeatedly shouted commands to stop, the suspect continued running through pedestrian areas and around city blocks. The chase eventually ended when a bystander intervened, allowing the mounted officer to detain the woman.

"The officer maintained control of his horse throughout the pursuit while clearly directing the suspect to stop," a police spokesperson noted.

The suspect has been charged with larceny and providing false information to authorities. Police records reveal the woman had previously been convicted of murder in April 2000 for fatally shooting a taxi driver and had served a prison sentence for that crime.

The unusual nature of the pursuit—involving a mounted officer navigating through modern city streets—drew attention from witnesses and has since circulated on social media platforms. The NYPD's mounted unit, which dates back to the 19th century, continues to patrol certain areas of the city despite the prevalence of patrol cars and other modern policing methods.
