Ofcom Fines Adult Site Operator £600,000 for Lax Age Checks

The UK's media regulator, Ofcom, has imposed a £600,000 fine on Youngtek Solutions Ltd, the operator of four adult websites, for failing to implement robust age verification measures. The penalty, announced Wednesday, stems from the company's non-compliance between July and September 2025, during which it did not ensure UK visitors were over 18 before accessing explicit content.

Ofcom stated that Youngtek has since introduced age checks but was initially unresponsive to information requests, leading to an additional £100,000 penalty. Under the Online Safety Act (OSA), which came into force in July 2025, platforms hosting pornography must deploy "highly effective" age verification to shield children from harmful material.

George Lusty, Ofcom's director of enforcement, emphasized the regulator's commitment to child safety: "Adult sites must use robust age checks to protect children in the UK from porn online.... Any company that fails to comply—or misses important deadlines when we demand information—can expect to pay the price."

The fine is the latest in a series of actions against adult sites under the OSA. Previous penalties include a £1 million fine for AVS Group Ltd, £800,000 for Kick Online Entertainment SA, and a record £1.35 million for 8579 LLC. Ofcom noted that 77 of the top 100 pornography services in the UK have now implemented age checks as of January.
