Lauren Price is poised for a summer return before embarking on a highly anticipated two-fight series against fellow Olympic gold medalist Claressa Shields, according to promoter Ben Shalom.
Price, who remains undefeated as a professional, recently secured a unanimous decision victory over Stephanie Pineiro in Cardiff. The Welsh fighter is now expected to face an opponent in August, potentially in Cardiff again, before turning her attention to the blockbuster double-header with Shields.
Shalom revealed the planned timeline for the matchups, stating: "Once in the US, and then hopefully once where we can come to either Cardiff City Stadium or the castle and do that in June next year because I think she's selling out that arena too fast at the moment. She needs somewhere bigger."
Shields, the current undisputed heavyweight champion and a multi-weight titleholder, attended Price's recent bout. While Shields competes at heavyweight, Shalom confirmed the fights with Price would likely take place at middleweight.
"I would say Lauren's most natural weight, her best weight, is the middleweight division," Shalom explained. "Claressa will have to come down to the middleweight division, but that's a weight she's done her best work at. So, in fact, it's a perfect match for both of them."
The promoter also praised the Cardiff crowd's enthusiastic support for Price, comparing it to previous events in the city. "There's nowhere like it in British boxing, the way the fans get behind their own, particularly Lauren Price, her fanbase is just incredible. It was a special night," Shalom added.
With both fighters holding Olympic gold medals and impressive professional records, the proposed two-fight series promises to be a landmark event in women's boxing.
