A recent webinar from the UROpenEd Program showcased two compelling examples of open pedagogy in higher education, demonstrating how open educational resources (OER) projects can deepen student learning and engagement.

Dr. Cristyne Hébert, a faculty member in the Faculty of Education, presented a project funded by an Open Pedagogy Fellowship. Her students developed and conducted interviews with practicing Saskatchewan teachers about their assessment methods. These interviews were recorded and made publicly available on a website for future instructors to use in their courses. Hébert shared how the project enhanced student learning, highlighted key outcomes, and offered recommendations for those considering similar open pedagogy fellowships.

Corey Safinuk, a student editor, provided a student perspective on a collaborative OER project. During a Canadian Politics history class, Safinuk and his peers worked together to write, edit, and publish an openly licensed book that explores crises faced by various prime ministers. The project gave students hands-on experience in research, writing, and publishing, while creating a lasting resource for future learners.

The session underscored the value of open pedagogy in fostering agency, collaboration, and real-world impact, making learning more meaningful for students.
