OpenAI Boosts ChatGPT Security with Yubico Partnership and New Account Protections

OpenAI has unveiled a new security initiative aimed at safeguarding ChatGPT accounts, introducing optional advanced protections for users who want extra layers of defense. The company's Advanced Account Security (AAS) program, announced on Thursday, offers enhanced features tailored for high-risk individuals but accessible to all users.

As part of the rollout, OpenAI has partnered with digital security firm Yubico to integrate two new phishing-resistant hardware security keys with ChatGPT accounts. The collaboration addresses the growing threat of phishing attacks targeting chatbot users, which have become increasingly common as AI platforms gain popularity.

Yubico's custom YubiKeys will provide an additional authentication factor, making it significantly harder for attackers to compromise accounts even if passwords are stolen. The initiative underscores OpenAI's commitment to protecting its rapidly expanding user base from evolving cyber threats.

"This partnership is a critical step in helping our users defend against sophisticated phishing campaigns," an OpenAI spokesperson said.

The AAS program is opt-in, allowing users to decide whether to enable the extra security measures. While designed with high-value individuals in mind—such as enterprise customers, journalists, and public figures—the protections are available to anyone with a ChatGPT account.
