This Pro version offers five times more Codex usage compared to the existing $20 monthly Plus plan, targeting users who require extended, high-intensity coding sessions.
"The new Pro tier is best for longer, high-effort Codex sessions," OpenAI stated in its announcement.
The introduction of this higher-priced subscription comes as OpenAI intensifies competition with rival AI company Anthropic, whose Claude Code tool has gained substantial popularity. The $100 ChatGPT Pro tier directly challenges Anthropic's top "Max" subscription level for Claude, which carries a similar price point.
This strategic move represents OpenAI's latest effort to capture more of the professional AI coding market while providing enhanced value for power users who need greater computational resources for complex programming tasks.
