In a recent hands-on review, tech YouTuber Nichonauta tested OpenCloud, a local AI agent designed to integrate with on-device language models. The verdict: it didn't impress.
The video walks through downloading and configuring the Qwen 3.5 4B model, setting up llama.cpp and llama server, and installing OpenCloud on Windows via PowerShell. While the concept of a local AI agent that doesn't rely on cloud services is appealing, the execution left much to be desired.
Key issues included compatibility problems with WSL2, script execution errors on Windows, and limited functionality in CLI mode. The agent struggled with basic system commands and failed to deliver the seamless experience that users expect from AI tools.
Despite the hype around local AI models, this test suggests that OpenCloud is more of a technical curiosity than a practical tool. For now, users may be better off sticking with established cloud-based solutions or waiting for future updates.
